Cosabella’s 30 Years of Color!
Cosabella celebrated the kick off to their 30th Anniversary with a press pre-view of their Fall 2013 collection and a retrospective of vintage Cosabella pieces from the past 30 years on March 14th at their New York City Flagship Store/Showroom.
Editors and stylists buzzed as they walked up to Cosabella’s NYC Flagship window. On display were three signature vintage looks beside vintage sketches from Cosabella’s past designers. The window signified the state of lingerie drawers when Cosabella first started in 1983, a world of black and white. Cosabella revolutionized what the lingerie market stood for by transforming functional foundation pieces into glamorous fashion accessories. They were the first intimate apparel company to offer underwear in such a stunning array of vibrant, rich hues, Cosabella transformed the idea of color from being just an accessory into being a lifestyle.
As guests entered they were hit with Cosabella’s signature World of Color. Everyone was greeted with Italian sparkling wine and a buffet of Italian treats from Osteria Morini. On display in the front section of the Flagship was Cosabella’s new collections for Fall/Winter 2013 including: the Cosabella inspired by “Magic City” capsule, The Betsy Bra designed by famed costume designer Betsy Heimann, new shapewear grouping Glam Contour, Never Say Never Fluorescents with black light reactive fabric and Trenta skin tone.
As guests made their way to the back of the shop they were treated to both a look into the life of the family behind Cosabella, the Campellos and a look into Cosabella’s vintage archive.
Old family photos adorned the walls while a slide show of both the Campello’s and Cosabella’s history played. Cosabella, meaning “beautiful thing,” was founded in 1983 by the Italian husband and wife team of Ugo and Valeria Campello. Still a family led business Cosabella has expanded into a second generation led by children Silvia and Guido Campello. Most of the evening Valeria and Ugo could be found in the back room discussing the vintage pieces and enjoying all their fond memories of Cosabella from the past 30 years. Of course as the second generation Guido and Silvia were up front excited to discuss everything Cosabella’s has planned for the future.
Cosabella’s vintage archive was definitely the hot topic of the night. Impressed at how timeless Cosabella’s designers were, you could always hear someone saying “I would wear that right now if I could”. Editors also chatted about the fine construction of the garments seeing as many of the items were over 25 years old. Look out for Cosabella vintage to be seen in the pages of high fashion glossies in the next few months.
